When we arrange our timetable, there are many large time gaps in our days. Many students have a hard time knowing what to do in these gaps and it is hard to change our schedules. There is a saying:  “If you can't avoid it, enjoy it!" Then, what can students do during the time between classes? By asking Ewha students, we picked five suggestions for spending time wisely.

Theaters

You can watch movies and improve refinement in three campus theaters in your free time. First, you can watch indie or art movies in Art House MoMo in the ECC. Momo doesn’t show popular movies like action or romantic comedies, but you can enlarge your cultural background from the movies shown here. Second, you can watch all kinds of movies freely in the Central Library audiovisual room. During the semester, it is open on the week days the opening hours are from 9 a.m to 9 p.m and on Saturday, it’s from 9a.m to 3p.m. During summer vacation, it’s open from 9 a.m to 7 p.m on weekdays. During winter vacation, it’s open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m on weekdays, and from 9 a.m to 3 p.m on Saturday. The last place you can watch movies freely on campus is ‘Haksaeng Munwhakwan’ [학생문화관]. The movies which are showing in this place are usually art and religion movies. You can enjoy cultural life in the time between your classes during the semester.

Ewha Womans University’s Museum

This is located near the front gate. When you first enter the university, you can see this building on the left. In that museum, they not only exhibit items about Ewha’s culture & history, but also about other cultural things. There are 3 gallery floors in this place.
On the first floor, there is a permanent exhibition. In this place, we can see our cultural history from prehistoric times to nowadays. The exhibition changes its projects each year, so we can enjoy a variety of collections there. On the Second floor, there is a modern art exhibition room and a project exhibition room. The modern art exhibition is opened in 2006, and is one of the few modern art galleries in Korea compared with galleries of ancient artworks. The project exhibition room is for exhibiting unique subjects. They also run lot of workshops, symposiums, and lectures while their projects are on. In the basement, there is the Dam-in clothing museum. It was opened by a clothing and textile professor’s mother. Here, you can admire the nobility classes’ clothes & accessories. You can feel our ancestors' polished and elegant aesthetic sense in that place. This museum opens from Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. You can enjoy a visit for free, with a one hour course of explanation.

Ewha History Museum

This museum is very far from the entrance. It is located beside the Law building, near the dormitory. This museum is a Korean traditional house, which is a reconstruction of Ewha's first school building. We can study about the history of Ewha in here. In the permanent exhibition room, we can see 120 years of Ewha’s story in pictures. It shows Ewha’s history in time order. In the project exhibition room, we can see different exhibitions each year. The manager plans new project each year and opens them on the school’s anniversary. In the media room, we can watch videos related to Ewha’s history.

“Yingyoe” Stairs

Actually “yingyoe” means the emotional state of people who don’t have any tasks to do. Ewha girls use this place when they have time on their hands so they named the stairs the “Yingyoe” Stairs. These stairs are located through the B1 and B2 levels. It’s a perfect place to chat with friends and do the team projects or eat your lunch. Many Ewha girls are usually studying or reading during their spare time. The place is so comfortable that students who don’t have money to go to coffee shops spend time here for free. It does attract crowds sometimes so it can be noisy.

Making up for lost Sleep

In Ewha, the first class starts at 8 A.M. It’s an hour earlier compared to other universities such as Yonsei University. For this reason, most students are struggling to sleep enough. After beginning the semester, of course, you may spot many people dozing off on the couches. But!! Don’t doze off on the couch!! There’s a perfect place where you can sleep. It’s Sleeping Room. There are two Sleeping rooms in Ewha. One is in the ECC 열람실 and the other is in the Student’s Center (학생문화관). Both of them have several beds, pillows and even blankets in order to give comfortable spaces for the students. It’s really quiet. Don’t forget to set an alarm before sleeping!

Build up your Body!
Most girls pay attention to their body shapes. In order to shape their bodies, they try hard to find appropriate and cheap places to work out. The ECC Fitness club is one of them. You can use the fitness center with only 40000 won per month which is much cheaper than fitness centers outside of Ewha. You can also take other programs such as yoga, taebo, pilataes and rock climbing. One the other exercise facilities is in the Student center. This facility offers various classes to attend such as ballet, tennis, squash and pop dancing. The cost is the same as the ECC’s fitness center. You can take very special courses with quite low cost. Get yourself into shape in 2012 with Ewha programs!!

Now, you don’t have to waste your spare time between classes. You can improve your health, refinement, watch movies and have good time with your friends.
Let’s enjoy our spare time! :)
